Santa Barbara Eco-Adventure Park

Another tourist destination in town is the (upcoming) Santa Barbara Eco-Adventure Park. To be integrated with the historic Irrigation Dam built in 1926, the future eco-adventure park is a Private-Public Partnership with the LGU spearheading with the PhP 1 Million PCF (Presidential Challenge Fund) Subsidy given by DILG to Santa Barbara after having awarded the Seal of Good Governance.  Baranggays. GMTD and Duyan duyan have joined hands with private owners of adjoining lots who are also participating in this ecological project development venture.  Based on the perspective, amenities would include a zip line, cottages & cabanas, swimming pools, boating facilities, playground, food kiosks and ample parking for guests, among others. Nov.11 is Tan Martin's birth anniversary

On November 11, 1858, Martin Teofilo Delgado , revolutionary general in the Visayas and Mindanao, was born in Santa Barbara, Iloilo, the second child of a rich and aristocratic Spanish mestizo family. He finished his early schooling at Santa Barbara Parochial School. Later, he enrolled at the Seminario de San Vicente Ferrer in Jaro. He later went on to he enroll at the Ateneo Municipal in Manila and obtained his diploma as a school teacher. After finishing his studies in Manila. He returned to his hometown and taught in a public school for some time. At the age of 25, he was chosen  teniente mayor , later made  capital municipal  and  juez de paz , which positions he held with distinction. Shortly after Commodore George Dewey had smashed the Spanish fleet at Manila Bay on May 1, 1898 and blockaded the capital, the hard-pressed Spanish colonial government organized Filipino volunteer militia in the different regions of the Philippines. Roman Catholic Cemetery

Upon the establishment of the pueblo in 1760, a Catholic Cemetery was also constructed in Sitio Angasan in consonance with hygiene and sanitation laws.  The establishment of the cemetery also facilitated the observance of All Soul’s Day, which at that time was already a popular practice in Catholic countries. After the construction of the Church and Convent was finished in 1845, improvement works on the cemetery was also undertaken.  A wall made of stone slabs was constructed around the premises. The Augustinian Fathers called these stone slabs as “piedra for Este Ultimo” or stone blocks from the Far East. The gate and the structure atop the front stonewall is made of wrought iron with ornate designs. Inscribed on the stone slabs of the front gate are words written in the local dialect which says:  “Ig-ampo mo kami, Karon sa amon, buas sa inyo” translated in English as “Pray for us, it’s our turn today, tomorrow it’s yours.” In those years the ...

Gen. Martin T. Delgado monument

A bronze statue, facing the Municipal Hall Building in the northwestern entrance of the “Victory” Plaza. The monument is a tribute to the town’s most distinguished son and the greatest revolutionary hero Visayas has ever produced- Gen. Martin T. Delgado. The statue which was unveiled in time with the 1998 Centennial Celebration is an unfading memorial of the gallantry and patriotism of Gen. Delgado and his revolutionary forces.

The Bandstand at the Victory Plaza

Nestled in the heart of the town and landscaped in time for the 1998 Philippine Centennial is the Victory Plaza. It is considered as a favorite hang-out of young and old especially during afternoons and early evenings. Its main feature is the Bandstand which is an octagonal-shaped structure constructed in 1925. It  serves as venue to various political gatherings and other social activities in town.

 Bingka is among the most popular native delicacy in Sta. Barbara. Before it was only during the Lenten Season that thet townsfolk get to taste this special rice cake. Rizal and the Propagandists Monument

  A tribute to our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, is a monument dedicated to his efforts to the propaganda movement together with other porpagandists including another Ilonggo, Graciano Lopez Jaena. The monument is located at the town plaza.
