"Fright Night" makes Pista Minatay "More Fun" in Santa Barbara

Gone are the days when Pista Minatay is a solemn trip to the cemetery - bring flowers, light a candle and offer prayers. Now, this day remembering our departed loved ones has become more of a holiday and party for the living.
Recognizing the trend and going with the flow, the Sangguniang Kabataan of Brgy Zone 1, the Santa Barbara Municipal Tourism Council and Whitehaven Garden Memorial Park team up to bring FRIGHT NIGHT Year 2 to the Santa Barbaranhons this 2013.
The event comprises of four sub events bringing "cheers" to one and all. For the kids, there's a KIDDIE COSPLAY CONTEST where kids below 12 years can dress up like their favorite characters like super heroes, witches, fairies and a lot more.
Along Arroyo Street (the street leading to the cemetery), households have put up scary displays depicting scenes of horror, mystery, tragedy - the more gory the better. They even have sounds and light effects. This is the TAWO-TAWO SA PATYO CONTEST which is among the first to be realized.
Almost throught the day, zombies roamed the cemeteries and streets scaring the daylights out of passersby especially children. But sometimes at the right place and time, they scare adults too! Now, that is why it is called the ZOMBIE SCARE CONTEST - the best costume at the same time scare tactics!
For the most awaited part, the SPOOKTACULAR COSTUME CONTEST lived up to its finale status as more than 30 shocking, horrific, fun and outrageous characters took the stage. Witches, walking deads, kapres, zombies, monsters, zombadings and a lot more vied for the crowds cheers and the judges votes.

With stalls providing food and drinks, bands entertaining the crowd, contests bringing the creativity at the same time entertaining the people, and a fireworks display finale, FRIGHT NIGHT Year 2 proved to be another successful event and looking forward for a bigger, better and scarier but more fun FRIGHT NIGHT next year!
Whitehaven Gardens Memorial Park is located along the highway to the airport with access roads along the main highway and Arroyo street from the town proper.

Iloilo Golf and Country Club - The oldest golf course in the Philippines

About a hundred years ago, very little was known about the game of golf in this part of the world, in the Philippines in general and in Iloilo in particular. Then a year or so after the turn of the century a group of Englishmen came to the country, employed by the Philippine Railway Co. whose purpose was to build the railway that was to connect the City of Iloilo to what was then the town of Capiz now Roxas City.  Among them were Scotsmen who then and even now are known to be lovers of the game of golf. Venture to say that to satisfy their needs of playing their favorite pastime, they consequently had to build a golf course. They looked for an area suited for their golf course which they found just outside the rural town of Santa Barbara conveniently located near the route of their railroad about 15 kilometers from the City. And they found that site amid the gently rolling hills. Not much was needed to be done to build a golf course in this area save cleaning level s...
